La veduta riprende piazza San Pietro prima dell'intervento berniniano. A destra si può osservare la torre dell'orologio progettata da Martino Ferrabosco per sottolineare l'ingresso dei Palazzi Vaticani in asse con la via Alessandrina. La torre, costruita tra il 1616 ed il 1617, fu successivamente demolita per far posto al colonnato del Bernini.
